Marjorie Green is an editor, author, journalist and mentor. As a writing coach, seminar leader and motivational speaker, she has trained and motivated hundreds of aspiring writers over the past 20 years.
Throughout this time, her freelance writing has appeared in major and local newspapers and magazines. An editor of books, magazines and newsletters, she was managing editor of an award-winning community newspaper - The Original Bay News - from 1995 – '96.
A three-time runner-up in the Toronto Star Short Story Contest, Marjorie has enjoyed teaching Creative Writing to young people through her innovative Kidwriters and Teenwriters programs, and to seniors at various centres in Durham Region and Haliburton County. She has organized several writers’ circles for adults, founded The Writers’ Circle of Durham Region, and co-founded The Writers and Editors Network in Mississauga and The Haliburton Highlands Writers' and Editors' Network in central Ontario.
A published author and poet, her work has appeared in three anthologies and a local history book, A Town Called Ajax, released by the town in 1995. Her humorous "how-to"/novel on writing, Spywriter: Licensed to Write was self-published in 1998 and again in 2006. A commissioned family history, Lawrence and Maria: Their Love Story was written for, and published by, the Van Lieshout family of Haliburton in 2005/06. More recently, she served as editor for two books - Generation to Generation and When We Were Young - published by Community Care Haliburton through a New Horizons grant.
Nominated in 1991 for the YWCA’s Durham Woman of the Year Award, for her writing efforts on behalf of women’s issues, Marjorie has served as a volunteer on many boards and committees over the past 20 years. In 1999, she was presented with an Ontario Volunteer Service Award from the Province of Ontario for her ongoing involvement in historical preservation and stewardship. She is current Chair of the Management Committee for the Haliburton Highlands Writers’ and Editors’ Network
