Maria Trautman has been writing memoirs for many years and has taken creative writing courses at Sir Sandford Fleming College, as well as with many acclaimed writers and teachers. In 2002, she was awarded the Stanley F. Dance scholarship from Fleming College for her writing.

Maria lives in Haliburton, Ontario with her husband Dan, is a dedicated volunteer in the community, and enjoys watercolor painting as a hobby.

Her first novel, Dark of the Moon, published by Xlibris, is due to be released in October, 2009. "A timeless tale of a woman's strong will to survive and determination to find her roots, Dark of the Moon is a poignant drama, certain to stir any reader's emotions."
